From The Indianapolis Star, Friday, September 14: A paved stretch of the National Old Trails Road (National Road) extending eastward from Irvington to the county line will be officially dedicated tomorrow with a huge automobile parade. This is the first link of the historic highway that has been made into a hard-surfaced road. Police Chief Quigley and a mounted police squad will lead the procession of cars from the State House along East Washington St. The National Motor Car Company’s band will also take part. Judge Joseph M. Lowe of Kansas City, president of the National Old Trails Road Association will give the dedicatory address. Mayor Joseph E. Bell, Marion County Commissioner Joseph G. Hayes, and representatives of the Hoosier Motor Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution will also participate. The public is invited to attend the ceremony.
