• Indiana’s own President Benjamin Harrison would be 184 this year. In honor of his birthday, the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site, 1230 N Delaware St., is offering free tours of his mansion on August 21. Guests may arrive between 10:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and will meet reenactors playing Pres. Harrison and his wife, Caroline. Join the celebration by singing the President “Happy Birthday” and enjoy free cake in the dining room where the First Family had many celebrations.
• Indy Magic Monthly will be moving to a new location beginning with its Sept. 5 show. The September show will be at their new home, the Indy Eleven Theatre in the IndyFringe building, 719 E. St. Clair at 7 p.m.. The lineup will include Bloomington mentalist and magician Jim Keplinger, plus Chicago’s Patrick Livingston, Matthew and David Stanley. • Irvington Community Schools will have a Pennsy Pedal on Sat., Aug. 12 from 10 a.m.-noon The event is open to all area families and especially created for children ages 5-10. The Pennsy Pedal will feature a bike safety “rodeo,” tricycle race (be sure to bring yours!), and other fun activities for kids such as Limbo, Hula Hoop, and sidewalk chalk drawing. As well, Irvington’s Indy Cycle Specialist, IMPD’s Bike Patrol, Indy Cog, Health by Design, the YMCA, and other local bicyclefriendly organizations will be participating. There will also be a drawing for children’s bike helmets and other prizes. There also will be snacks and cold drinks. Park at the ICES overflow lot on the southwest corner of Kitley and Julian avenues; you can also park at Irvington Plaza near the Dairy Queen — and bike from there!
• Up for some spiritual renewal? Try Yoga in the Garden on Sat., Aug. 12 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at Garfield Park Conservatory, 2505 Conservatory Dr. A certified instructor will be on hand for yoga and guided meditation. The class is $10; register at apm.activecommunities.com/indyparks/
• Learn more about Forest Gardens at a workshop at Wild Persimmon School of Wellness, 6215 E. Raymond St. on Aug. 19 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Admission is free.
• The first Hu-Manifest Health & Wellness Music Festival will be held Sat., Aug. 12 and 13 beginning at 9 a.m.-noon at Playground Productions Studio, 5529 N. Bonna Ave.. It will be a day with yoga, massage therapy, various healing methods and education on health and nutrition, with live music, belly dancers, fire dancers and street performers. Half of the ticket sales will be donated to the National Ataxia Foundation: https://ataxia.org/. Tickets are $30-$50 and includes workshops, entertainment, and much more. • The Irvington Farmers Market will be held Aug. 13 from noon-3 p.m. at Ellenberger Park, 5301 E. St. Clair. Lots of produce to be had this time of year, including sweet corn, tomatoes, cantaloupe, and other fresh-from-the-garden goodies. Check out the many local vendors, chat with community groups, get your guacamole and ice cream, and listen to some great music!
