INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Public Library is making it easier for individuals to access electronic resources and place holds on physical materials through its new online Library card application process.
Marion County residents, except those in Speedway, who are 18 years of age and older can receive an active Library card number that will allow for immediate access to IndyPL’s vast collection of eBooks, eAudiobooks, streaming movies, music and reference databases and to manage their online account. Applicants must have a telephone and address in their name and a valid email address.
Those with an electronic Library card number used in conjunction with a smartphone loyalty card app, such as KeyRing, can check out materials at any IndyPL location. In lieu of using a smartphone app, electronic cardholders wishing to obtain a physical Library card can do so in person at the Library and receive a new account number for both electronic and physical access.
Online Library card registration represents the latest effort by IndyPL to address a key strategic planning goal to maximize access to the Library and its services.
Overall, the Library has more than 477,000 cardholders, representing 53 percent of the Marion County population, who utilize services at its web branch and its 24 branch locations.
