From The Indianapolis News, Thursday, May 10: This afternoon with sun breaking through cloudy skies from time to time, hundreds of persons assembled with mingled emotions of sadness, pride, and patriotic fervor along the line of march in downtown Indianapolis to witness more than 2,000 of the ever dwindling ranks of Civil War veterans parade in their annual state review. The crowd watched realizing that many of those battle-scarred warriors, marching with uneven yet proud steps behind shell-holed flags, may never march again. Thoughts came into the minds of those who silently paid tribute to the past, of the present day and the part which Indiana is about the play on the wider battle fronts of the world war. The parade was part of the program for the 38th encampment of the Department of Indiana, Grand Army of the Republic.
