From The Indianapolis Star, Sunday, December 10, 1916: Monday, December 11, is Admission Day, the day on which the state of Indiana will be 100 years old. Centennial medals have been made by distinguished Hoosier sculptor Janet Scudder as the one permanent memorial of the celebration. The obverse side depicts an allegorical representation, in delicate low relief, of the welcoming of the baby state of 1816 into the Union. In the distance are seen the historic little State House at Corydon and the Constitution Elm. The other side of the medal shows the state seal. The souvenir medal comes in two sizes, one two and one-half inches in diameter selling for $1 (2015: $22), and a smaller size selling for 25¢ (2015: $6). It is expected that a great many of them will be used as Christmas gifts.
