From The Indianapolis News, Friday, November 10, 1916: Three hundred thirteen Indianapolis public school teachers are currently enrolled in afternoon and evening extension courses now being offered by Indiana University and Butler College at Shortridge High School. According to Jacob G. Collicott, Indianapolis school superintendent, at least two hundred more teachers will begin their extension studies in the next two weeks. Those in charge of the extension work have consulted Indianapolis public school authorities to make sure the courses offered are parallel to the university work that teachers employed by the Indianapolis schools are required to take to obtain additional professional training. Teachers can now avail themselves of the opportunity to take such training in the extension work offered in Indianapolis by Butler and I.U., thereby avoiding the expense of attending the campus of either of these schools.
