FACE Breaks Ground on Expansion

INDIANAPOLIS — FACE Low-Cost Animal Clinic officials broke ground on a new 7,000 square-foot building and launched “Imagine,” a $3.6 million fundraising initiative that will allow the state’s largest high-volume, low-cost animal clinic to expand its services and put Indianapolis on a sustainable path to becoming a “no kill” city.
FACE, which was founded in 1999, plans two construction phases for the expansion. The new 7,000 square-foot building will be constructed directly adjacent to the current clinic at 1505 Massachusetts Ave. and is slated for completion in early 2017. FACE then will move operations to the new facility while its current space is renovated and connected to the new building.
The entire project will result in a 14,000 square foot facility, and is expected to be completed by late 2017 at a total anticipated cost of $3 million. The expansion will be funded primarily through private donations.
When FACE was established 17 years ago, approximately 22,000 dogs and cats were euthanized in Indianapolis area shelters. At the end of 2015, that number had dropped drastically to less than 2,300.
FACE’s new clinic represents an important investment in animal welfare in a zip code that is among the city’s highest need areas for all forms of human services. Located within the Mass Ave. Brookside Industrial Corridor, which is recognized as a federally designated Promise Zone, the new clinic stands to contribute to the revitalization efforts led by Riley Area Development Corp.
In addition to offering accessible and affordable medical services, FACE manages the humane services of Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) and community cat diversion, keeping cats out of shelters and preventing euthanasia.  FACE also leads the Indy Mega-Adoption event, a one-day animal adoption event that has resulted in more than 5,000 cats and dogs adopted into central Indiana homes.
