• The BMV branches will be closed for the 4th of July. Ditto all federal, state and local offices. Trash and recycling schedules will be on a sliding schedule — Monday pickups will be on Tuesday, Tuesday will be on Wednesday, and so on.
• The IDADA First Friday events on July 1 from 6-9 p.m. in and around downtown include the Harrison Center for the Arts Food Con VI, celebrating local and sustainable food, plus the arts. The Harrison is at 1505 N. Delaware St. Many spaces will be closed, including the Stutz and the 924 Gallery. Coal Yard Coffee at 5547 Bonna Ave. is always hopping on First Friday, so eastsiders can stop by and see what’s happening.
• IMPD is expecting huge crowds downtown for the Fourth of July celebrations — possibly 200,000. Please be careful and take your time if you are going downtown for fireworks.
• The Irvington Branch of the library will host a Found Art for Kids program on July 7 at 1 p.m. Children ages 7 and older are invited to turn found objects into art and learn about the long history of reusing and recycling. Artist-in-residence Tony Radford will work with participants to turn pop cans into art. Call 275-4450 to register. The branch is located at 5625 E. Washington St.
• IMPD East District will host a Public Safety Blood Drive July 13 from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. during their Community Day at Brookside Park near Sherman and Brookside Parkway. Register at www.donorpoint.org.
• On June 25, Preserve Greater Indy will host an Architectural Scavenger Hunt from 10 a.m.-noon in the Irvington Historic District. It will be a BINGO-style scavenger hunt to identify architectural features throughout the Irvington Historic District. Experienced architectural historians or anyone who loves historic homes will enjoy this urban adventure. Meet at the corner of the Pennsy Trail and S. Audubon Rd. at 10 a.m. Come prepared with a camera phone or digital camera. There will be prizes. The event is free.
• Cumberland Founder’s Day will be celebrated June 25 from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on the Cumberland Town Hall Grounds, 11501 E. Washington St. It is the first Founder’s Day, with lots of events for the whole family, entertainment, a beer garden for adults, vintage games and lots more. The event is free.
• Indiana Landmarks will host their 4th Treasure Hunt on July 9 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Indiana Landmarks Center, 1201 Central Ave. There will be 50 booths of antiques inside and outdoors and the center and on the lawn of the Morris-Butler house at 1204 N. Park Ave. There will be music, food trucks and Zaharako’s ice cream parlor on the campus. Cost is $5 to get in between 8-9 a.m. and free afterwards. Lots of homes in the Old Northside historic district will also have yard sales. This is always a fun day for antique lovers.
