INDIANAPOLIS – Mayor-elect Joe Hogsett recently announced the appointment of Dr. David Hampton and Jeff Bennett to serve in his cabinet as Deputy Mayors, focusing on the administration’s neighborhood redevelopment and community engagement initiatives. In addition, Hogsett tapped former Lt. Governor Kathy Davis to head up an innovative initiative aimed at addressing the city’s long-term fiscal stability and delivery of key services.
Dr. David Hampton has worked as a tireless community advocate and leader in his role as senior pastor at Light of the World Church. As Deputy Mayor of Neighborhood Engagement, Hampton will spearhead an effort to improve community outreach and communication, helping to connect neighborhoods with key services and city initiatives.
Jeff Bennett joins the Hogsett administration with two decades of experience working in and with neighborhoods and Indiana nonprofit organizations. As Deputy Mayor of Community Development, he will work to restructure and coordinate city departments to better serve neighborhoods, aiming to increase ease of interaction, break down bureaucratic silos, and improve customer service.
Citing the city’s current multimillion dollar structural budget deficit and his personal dedication to government efficiency, Mayor-elect Hogsett also announced that he has asked former Lt. Governor Kathy Davis to join his administration and lead an effort to analyze and reform the city’s financial and information systems. Working across city department lines, Davis will use data-driven methods to identify opportunities for greater efficiency and cost savings, encouraging collaboration between the Office of the Controller and other department directors to save tax dollars and improve delivery of services. In 2003, Kathy Davis was appointed Lieutenant Governor of Indiana and was the first woman to hold that position. Utilizing her graduate degrees in mechanical engineering (MIT) and business (Harvard), Davis has had a lengthy career of public service that included service as Indiana’s State Budget Director, Secretary of the Family and Social Services Administration, and Controller for the City of Indianapolis.
