INDIANAPOLIS — Public Advocates in Community re-Entry (PACE) is expanding its Breaking the Chains Program with a post-release workshop. The new Guidance for Post Support (GPS) Workshop is an intensive three-week post-release program to help justice-involved individuals overcome barriers to community re-entry, achieve financial readiness and prepare for successful employment.
The Indiana Department of Correction reports that offenders released in 2020 had a 34.78 percent recidivism rate and were recommitted to the IDOC within three years of their release date, for either a new conviction or a violation of post-release supervision. In Marion County, the rate is even higher at 45.7 percent.
The post-release program offers a range of services including job placement assistance and training to ensure participants are equipped with the skills and resources needed to thrive.
Men who completed the pre-release Breaking the Chains program while incarcerated in one of the participating Indiana Department of Correction facilities are eligible for GPS.
Throughout the three-week program, participants are paid $16.00 an hour to ensure they can meet their financial obligations during training.
As the leading re-entry agency in the state of Indiana, PACE provides case management, recovery support, moral reconciliation therapy, workforce development, and more.
