• All locations of the Indianapolis Public Library will be closed Sunday, Dec. 24; Monday, Dec. 25; and Tuesday, Dec. 26 for the Christmas holiday. All locations will be closed Sunday, Dec. 31 and Monday, Jan. 1 for the New Year’s holiday, except the InfoZone, which will be open both days from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
• Public charter school networks Purdue Polytechnic High Schools, Paramount Schools of Excellence, Herron Classical Schools, and Goodwill Education Initiatives Network (The Excel Center) recently received 15 year Enduring Excellence renewals from the Indianapolis Mayor’s Office of Education Innovation.
• Fort Harrison State Park, 5753 Glenn Rd. in Lawrence, continues its New Year’s Day First Day Hike tradition on Monday, Jan. 1 at 1 p.m. Join the naturalist on staff for a 2 mile hike on the paved Harrison Trace. Meet at the Delaware Shelter, and dress appropriately for the weather. The hike is free with admission to the park, which is $7 per non-commercial vehicle.
• Sense Charter School will hold a Family Open Gyms session for families with kids up to mid-elementary age to run off some energy on Monday, Jan. 1 from 9:30 -11:30 a.m. at the school, located at 1601 Barth Ave. Check out the new multi-purpose space and meet new families in the neighborhood. Children must be accompanied by an adult. No RSVP is necessary.
• Spades Park Branch Library will hold a special Creative Movement lesson for kids ages 3-5 on Tuesday, Jan. 2 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. The lesson is offered by teachers from Dance Kaleidoscope Admission is free. The library is located at 1801 Nowland Ave. In addition, check out their very full schedule of events for kids and adults in one of only two Carnegie libraries in the city.
• The Good Faith Initiative can assist noncustodial parents who have lost their driver’s license due to the State’s delinquent child support obligations. The participant is required to make an affordable payment of child support order, update their employment information, and commit to paying the agreed-upon amount toward their child support obligations.
