INDIANAPOLIS — South East Neighborhood Development (SEND) is proud to report that they recently were awarded a $925,000 grant through the City of Indianapolis Department of Metropolitan Development (DMD) Vacant to Vibrant program. These funds will be utilized to create new affordable housing in Southeast Indy.
Funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), the Vacant to Vibrant program is an initiative to transform vacant houses in Indianapolis into affordable living spaces for residents. The program intends to create rental, rent-to-own, and homeownership properties to fight the ongoing housing crisis. SEND is one of nine funding recipients.
The approved plan for SEND’s grant award includes the construction of 2 single-family homes and a “quad” (4-unit) residential building that will become affordable rental units. This expands the total of SEND affordable rental properties to 79 units.
The two homes will be built in Twin-Aire and the quad residential building will be built in Indy’s Old South Side. The quad is named The Bridgeman, honoring Anthony Bridgeman and his impact and legacy to bring more affordable housing units to Indy.
The new facility is set to open in 2026.
