Racing on Memorial Day & Beyond

Okay there was a race on the Sunday of the Memorial Day weekend. This was also the day the Indy 500 is run. But due to the pandemic, the Indy race has been re-scheduled to run on August 23. However, the Cola Cola 600 was run on Sunday at the Charlotte Motor Speedway as it has been traditionally run. The NASCAR boys ran without the crowd but for the TV cameras. Popular driver Brad Keselowski driving his #2 Team Penske did some late race maneuvers to come from last to win on the final lap, besting Chase Elliott. Aided by a yellow flag on the second to last lap, which caused the race to go into overtime, Keselowski claimed his first victory of the season.
As always, there was controversy and several teams crying foul. Jimmy Johnson finished second, but a post race inspection found that Johnson’s car was illegally set up and was disqualified.  The race started at 6 p.m. ET but was red flagged for rain, then was resumed and completed. Kurt Busch started from the pole with a 181:269 qualifying run and Jimmy Johnson started next to him with a 181:214 run. Chase Elliott started third and Matt Kenseth was fourth.
On Thursday, May 27th, the Alsco Uniforms 500 was also run at the Charlotte track. William Byron started from the pole but it was his teammate Chase Elliott in the #9 Hendricks Motorsports Chevy who took the victory.
On May 31st, the action was at Bristol, Tennessee for the Food City Supermarket Heroes 500. Brad Keselowski won his second race of the season as well as the Food City pole. Keselowski seems to have the hot foot right now. He is 36 years old and hails from Rochester Hills, Michigan. He has driven for Team Penske since 2010 and has 31 Cup Series wins and 39 Xfinity Series wins. He is married with two daughters.
At this point Kevin Harvick still  leads the series’ point chase with 370 points. Joey Logano is in second spot with 346 points. Chase Elliott is third with 325. Keselowski is fourth with 315.
