INDIANAPOLIS — Film historian Eric Grayson will screen Rocky Jones, Space Ranger, an early 1950s TV show, at Garfield Park Arts Center, 2432 Conservatory Drive, Indianapolis, on Saturday, Jan. 11, at 7 p.m.
The show features a space ranger (Richard Crane) who works for the Office of Space Affairs. Also starring are Scotty Beckett and Sally Mansfield. Jones captains his ship (a modified V2 rocket from WWII). His crewmates Vena (Mansfield) and Winky (Beckett) are on hand to be kidnapped by aliens and complicate the plot. Grayson says, “If this sounds like cheesy 1950s space opera, it is, with questionable dialogue and effects, and a lot of delightfully funny technical gaffes. It’s Star Trek before Star Trek and it still shows its roots from Flash Gordon.”
Showing “real film on real projectors,” Grayson will introduce the film and a short feature and conduct a Q&A afterwards.
Admission is $5. Concessions are available for $1. For further information, visit www.gpacarts.org or call 317-327-7135.
