Indianapolis Celebrates Veterans Day November 11

INDIANAPOLIS – The Veterans Day Council of Indianapolis invites Circle City citizens to join in honoring the nation’s veterans on Monday, Nov. 11 with a special service and parade for Veterans Day.
The Veterans Day Service will be held on the north steps of the Indiana War Memorial, 431 N. Meridian St., in downtown Indianapolis. A patriotic musical prelude provided by the Indiana National Guard’s 38th Division Band begins at 10:30 a.m. The memorial service starts at 11 a.m. with guest speaker, Bob Spanogle, Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army. The Veterans Day Parade kicks off as soon as the Veterans Day Service concludes, with this year’s Grand Marshall, Bob Spanogle. More than 80 units march in this annual parade, which begins at Michigan and Pennsylvania Streets, moves south on Pennsylvania to New York Street, west to Meridian Street and finishes at North Street. The Veterans Day Council of Indianapolis is a volunteer based, 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization whose primary purpose is to bring about a wholesome and constructive relationship between the community and veterans of our Armed Forces.
Veterans Day is a federal holiday that recognizes the nation’s veterans of all wars and those who served in peacetime. Originally called Armistice Day, it marked the end of World War I at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.
As a federal holiday, there will be no mail service and most banks will be closed. City offices will be closed. Trash pickup will be on its normal schedule.
