INDIANAPOLIS — Film historian Eric Grayson will screen “Milestones in Early Stop-Motion Animation,” using examples from 1912 to 1930 at Garfield Park Arts Center’s Vintage Movie Night, Sat., Dec. 16, at 7 p.m.
Stop-motion animation is a technique in which small models are moved very slightly, photographed, moved again and re-photographed. When the results are played back, like an old-fashioned flip-book, according to Grayson, the images appear to move and dinosaurs or other creatures come to life.
“We’ll show the development of these techniques with early practitioners Willis O’Brien, Ladislaus Starevitch, Winsor McKay, and Charley Bowers,” he added.
