Part of Historic Irvington Building Crumbles

IRVINGTON — The Historic Irvington commercial district had a scare Monday morning when part of the parapet on Jack and Jill’s Antiques of Irvington fell to the sidewalk at the corner of Ritter and East Washington St. The area was cordoned off until structural investigators inspected to ensure the building was safe.

The date built sign also came down with the parapet.

The building was built in 1913 and many businesses have occupied the property, including the State Bank of Irvington. In 1999 Jack and Jill Lashbrook bought the property and created their antique mall.
Heavy rains over the Sept. 17-18 weekend may have contributed to the front parapet falling on to the sidewalk below, but a full investigation will be needed to determine the cause.
The Irving Theatre, which is next door, is a separate building and was not damaged at all.
No one was injured.
