From The Indianapolis News, Thursday, May 4, 1916: Subscriptions to the Indianapolis gift to the state park fund has reached $14,844 (2015: $326,183). Thirty-five clubs have sent subscriptions to the state park committee and the Indianapolis Real Estate Board has appointed a special committee to canvass its membership for contributions to the movement. A motor car trip is being planned to explore all the scenic nooks of Turkey Run. The party will include Richard Lieber, chairman of the state park committee, and Charles Barnaby, a leading authority on timber. Mr. Barnaby has been energetic in helping the park movement among the Indiana timber men, most of whom favor giving the state park committee unhindered way in bidding on Turkey Run when the place is sold at auction on May 18.
