From The Indianapolis News, Monday, June 7, 1915: Boy Scout Troop 19 gave a program last night at Downey Avenue Christian Church that included signaling, fire building, and cooking. Church and community members had an opportunity to see what their boys have been doing in scout work and sample pancakes and twist (bread) baked on a stick without the use of utensils. Those who tasted the pancakes, along with pastor Rev. Charles H. Winders, were unanimously in favor of the boys’ work. Many of the varying phases of the Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class work, including signaling with semaphore flags, were demonstrated by troop members. Candidates for Tenderfoot rank answered rapid fire questions on American flag history and etiquette posed by Scoutmaster Urban C. Stover. The annual campfire was one of the most impressive events of the evening.
