Rare World War II Cartoons at Garfield

INDIANAPOLIS — Eric Grayson will screen Private Snafu cartoons at the monthly Vintage Movie Night at the Garfield Park Arts Center on November 15. The program begins at 7 p.m.
The Snafu cartoons contain irreverent humor about Nazis, getting blown to bits, and what happens if you don’t take your malaria medicine. They were created to teach World War II soldiers what happens if you fail to follow military protocol.
The films were never intended to be seen by the general public, and, in fact, were not until they were released on DVD in 2006, more than 60 years after they were created. You can see them in their original 16mm format when Eric shares the cartoons from in his large private collection of films and shorts.
The Private Snafu character was created by Frank Capra and voiced by Mel Blanc. Many episodes were written by Theodore “Dr. Seuss” Geisel.
Admission to the showing is $5. Concessions are $1.The films are family-friendly. For more information, visit www.gpacarts.org.
