Applause!: Sept. 26-Oct. 2

• This Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014 the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is sponsoring the ninth nationwide “Prescription Drug Take Back” initiative. This service is free and anonymous with no questions asked. The only restriction is they will not accept new or used needles. This program is intended for liquid and pill medications. The drugs may be dropped off at any Indiana State Police Post on Sept. 27 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The Indiana State Police Capitol Police Division will also host a drop off site on Friday Sept. 26, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Robert Orr Plaza in Indianapolis, between the government buildings. The east side location of the Indiana State Police is 8620 East 21st St.
• The Community Hospital East Auxiliary will sponsor a Fall Boutique sale on Thurs. and Fri., Oct. 2 and 3 in the breezeway near the Main Lobby. Hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days.  Payment by cash, check or payroll deduction. Proceeds to benefit hospital services and projects.
• The Irvington Development Organization will be holding its annual Night Out in Irvington on Sept. 27 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Geneva Hair Salon, 5541 E. Washington St. Hear all about the great plans for Irvington over refreshments (cash bar) and entertainment. Admission is free to members of IDO, or $10 in advance or $15 at the door. • The John H. Boner Community Center’s Neighborhood Summit will be held Oct. 9 from 6:30-8 p.m. at East 10th United Methodist Church (2327 E. 10th St.). They need agenda items such as celebrations of progress in the neighborhood, challenges, updates on community groups and organizations, and more. • The Beech Grove High School Homecoming Parade will be held Sept. 26 at 5:15, stepping off from the middle school and heading south on 13th Ave. and east on Main. The homecoming game will have Beech Grove taking on Monrovia. This year they will be honoring the 1954 BGHS Football Alumni and the 50 Year Class of 1964. Expect tailgating!
• The Benton House Tour of Homes was a great success, thanks to the hard work of many volunteers and supporters. The classy cars, cupcakes, great houses and owners, topped off with perfect weather made for a great day!
• As of this writing, the Coal Factory meeting in front of the Indianapolis Historic Preservation Commission will be held Oct. 1 at 5:30 p.m. at the City-County Building, 200 E. Washington St. The presence of residents and business owners in support of the project on Bonna Ave. can make a huge difference to the commission.
