Applause! April 5-12

• Congratulations and job well done to Linda McCoy, who recently celebrated 40 years of serving hungry customers at the Steak and Shake at Franklin and Washington St. Quite an achievement!
• Titan Pride! The Techoir and Technicians Show Choir were featured on the Downtown Disney stage on April 3 and 4. These kids (and Tech staff) worked really hard to get to Disney, and are terrific ambassadors for Indianapolis and the east side! Congratulations to a fantastic group.
• Check out the Bona Thompson’s art collection, which features  “A Century of the City Beautiful” illustrating George Kessler’s 1912 park and boulevard system for Fort Wayne. He was instrumental in the development of Indianapolis’ Park and Boulevard system. The Bona is located at 5350 University Ave. and is open to the public on Sundays from 1-4 p.m., Wednesdays from 1-3 p.m. and Saturdays from 1-4 p.m. and by appointment. Call 353-BONA for more information.
• Find out about English Country Dance on April 11 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Garfield Park Arts Center, 2432 Conservatory Dr. for free. It’s kind of like folk dance, but originated in Renaissance England. Sounds like fun.
• The Englewood Community will kick off their Community Garden on April 13 from 9 a.m.-noon at the CommonWealth Gym, 23 N. Rural. Learn from experienced gardeners, participate in hands-on workshops, and have some soup and salad. Register for this free event by calling 639-1541 or e-mail erinmcrae3@gmail.com as soon as possible.
• On the heels of a wonderful production of Julius Caesar: Beware the Ides of March, EclecticPond will be auditioning for Much Ado About Nothing on April 10 from 7-10 p.m. and April 11 from 7-10 p.m. by appointment only. E-mail pheinkel@eclecticpond.org for audition slots available. This production will be set in the Roaring Twenties and will open in June.
• The eastside’s “tree whisperer” Jerome Delbridge has started a new business helping residents use new techniques to save their ash trees from the emerald ash borer, as well as handling other tree-related issues. Tree-Centric Solutions (www.tree-centric.com) will also offer services to people who have dead and/or untreatable trees, turning them into lumber or finished products. Jerome will also continue to be a key player in KIB’s tree programs.
• Tickets for the Old Irvington Post Office Fundraiser event April 6 are available at the door for $12. Marc and Friends will take the stage for entertainment, and proceeds go to pay for restoration and stabilization of the historic building on the corner of Ritter and East Washington St. (5502 E. Washington). The event will be held at the Lodge, 5515 E. Washington St. from 6-9 p.m. Help save a historic landmark in the heart of the east side!
