From The Indianapolis Star, Friday, January 10, 1913: Miss Goldie Heathco, 337 N. Webster Av, Irvington, has been sworn in as a deputy constable by Irvington Justice of the Peace Albert Deel. The fair-haired, blue-eyed 21-year old, whose face is constantly lit with a smile, does not resemble any image of a constable. She has been employed for some time in the office of Squire Deel, 206 S. Audubon Rd, where she gained the knowledge of a constable’s duties which led to her appointment. She will handle special cases by the Irvington justices of the peace and by some of the downtown justices. As to whether she’ll carry a revolver, she replied, “Well I don’t imagine so….I won’t need one. They will have respect for me because I’m a woman.”
