From The Indianapolis News, Tuesday, October 5, 1915: Cool October breezes may chase away Palm Beach suits, but the open summer cars of the Indianapolis Traction & Terminal Co seem to go on forever on city street car lines. No one knows why such cars are run when the air was as cool as it was this morning. Early riders from Irvington have a horror of Car No. 617 on the East Washington Street line, carrying chills and aches to the passengers. Several days ago one of the curtains that passengers sometimes use to protect themselves against the cold was broken off by the conductor, and it still has not been replaced. If riders believed the street car company was trying to wear out this type of car, they might be more willing to run the risk of pneumonia.
