From The Indianapolis Times, Tuesday, August 17, 1915: Provided the proper officials look with favor on the proposition, Indianapolis will soon have daily “community” concerts in its parks during the summer months. The idea was explained to five members of the city council by the Indianapolis Musicians’ Protective Association last night in the Musicians’ headquarters on east Ohio Street. The councilmen were all favorably impressed with the plan. The concert season would be from June 15 to Labor Day. During that time, concerts would be given each evening in different parks, with matinee programs on Saturday and Sunday. The committee estimates that an appropriation of $7,500 (2014: $172,955.01) would care for these concerts, with a twenty-five piece band. About twenty of the largest cities in the country are following this plan. Mayor Bell has expressed himself in favor if this idea.
