• The members of the Indiana Photographic Society present “Window on the World,” Through the Lens Photography Exhibit IX from April 4-25 at the Garfield Park Arts Center, 2432 Conservatory Dr. There will be about 80-90 photographs on display. The opening reception is April 4 from 5-7 p.m. which will feature the Perry Meridian High School String Quartet. Admission is free.
• Hancock Regional Hospital Volunteer Guild will hold a chocolate sale featuring J. Evelyn Confections on April 1 from 7 a.m.-4 p.m. in the hospital’s lower lobby. Fill your basket (and belly) with hand-crafted, locally made truffles, toffees, Easter novelties and soft-bite caramels. The hospital is located at 801 N. State St.
• Check out “Good-Nite Caroline,” presented by the Candlelight Theatre at the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site April 17-18 and May 1-2. This is a three one-act vintage comedy collection, starring Irvingtonian Sue Beecher, amongst others. Tickets sell out fast; call 631-1888 or visit www.bhpsite.org/ for more information and to reserve seats.
• The Shortridge High School Alumni Association will present a concert by the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra with special guest artist Jeremy Green Friday, April 10, at 7 p.m. in Caleb Mills Hall at Shortridge High School, 3401 N. Meridian St. The concert is one of a series of events celebrating the 150th anniversary of Shortridge as Indiana’s first public high school. Tickets for the April 10 concert are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 17 years of age and are available online at Event Brite.
• A food pantry recently opened at George S. Buck School 94, thanks to the a community partnership between Buckingham Companies and IPS. Volunteers spent days converting an empty storage room in the school to a fully-stocked pantry. Students will help by working in the food pantry.
• The Police Department Parole Impact Unit is requesting a donation of any type of male clothing for clients. This will help the unit when coming into contact with paroles. The unit encounters paroles with nothing but the prison clothes they were released in. Any donations are much appreciated. Arrangements can be made by contacting Officer Jason Brown at 317-964-1876 or by e-mail Jason.Brown@indy.gov. Items may also be dropped off at 201 N. Shadeland Ave Door 1 faces South toward Gold’s gym.
• Some action is being taken to fill potholes on the east side. Recently, the corner of 10th and Emerson got some well-deserved attention, and the underpass at East 10th and Mitchner got resurfaced. South Sherman and South Emerson under the train tracks may be next (we hope, before we break an axle or fall into Middle Earth). Keep calling the Mayor’s Action line at 327-4622 to report those potholes!
