IRVINGTON — At the core of Irvington Community Schools’ charter lies a key distinction: all ICS K-12 students receive art, music, physical education, and foreign language instruction weekly, if not daily. And because of it, a first-time fundraising event has been born: The Irvington Children’s Art Show.
In partnership with the 5547 Project, a community-based organization that supports local artists as an alternative art studio/gallery, ICS student work, selected for its artistic merit by the charter schools’ art faculty members, will be on display and priced to sell. Proceeds from the sale of these works will support Irvington Community Schools and its art program. The gallery is located at 5547 Bonna Avenue in Historic Irvington, just a few blocks northwest of Irvington Preparatory Academy. It is housed on the Coal Factory grounds, a $1.4 million 50,000-square-foot development project that will feature retail shops and restaurants.
The Irvington Children’s Art Show will take place on Friday, December 5 from 5-9 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. On December 4, there will be a VIP reception/art show preview from 6-9 p.m. The reception will include a silent art auction and complimentary food and beverage service, as well as interaction with local artists and ICS student artists and faculty members. The cost is $50 per individual and $75 per couple.
