From The Indianapolis Star, Thursday, November 12, 1914: In a spirit of charity and helpfulness, 100 Indianapolis society women with the Red Cross Auxiliary are working on Red Cross supplies at the Episcopal Diocesan House, 1559 Central Av. Anxious to do their share in alleviating the suffering of the men and women across the sea, the women are assembling dozens of garments that have been cut by a local garment factory and made ready to be sewed on a sewing machine donated by the Singer Sewing Machine Co. The public has been asked to donate scraps for filling pillows and remnants for pillow covers. The women are making pillows, bed socks, pajamas, and bandages for wounded soldiers. Women’s and children’s garments are also being fashioned to clothe the wives and children of the men at the front.
