From The Indianapolis Times, Wednesday, November 11, 1914: No milk may be imported into Indianapolis from counties other than Marion after Sunday, November 15 unless the milk is accompanied by documentation from a licensed veterinarian or deputy county health officer certifying that the dairy herd has been inspected and found to be free of foot and mouth disease. The order was issued yesterday afternoon following a special meeting of the city’s board of health. While Indiana as a whole is under quarantine because of the disease, inspectors have not found a single dairy herd in Marion County that has been infected. However, a great deal of milk is shipped to Indianapolis by farmers on interurban lines from other counties and it is physically impossible for the limited number of city health inspectors to reach the various herds.
