Veterans Honored at Hall of Fame

LAWRENCE — The Indiana Military Veterans Hall of Fame (IMVHOF) has named its first group of honorees, which will be inducted during a ceremony on November 7, 2014.
The IMVHOF did a statewide call for nominations in June, resulting in 60 applications. Sixteen military veterans with Hoosier ties were selected for outstanding service achievements or military and community contributions.
For the valorous military service category:
Gary D. Brewer, Sr.* Worthington; Robert H. Butler, Jr.*, Indianapolis; William E. Butler*, Indianapolis; Charles B. Garrigus*, Indianapolis; Richard E. Goodwin, Greenfield; Ronald E. Gray, Palm Bay, FL; Charles W. Lindewald*, LaPorte; Johnny J. Miller*, Argos; Joseph E. Proctor*, New Whiteland; Fredrick L. Spaulding, Fishers; Robert J. Williamson*, Vevay (* denotes award given posthumously).
For the combined military and community service category:
Allen E. Paul Richmond; James E. Koutz, Boonville; Robert G. Moorhead*, Indianapolis; Donald W. Moreau, Center Point; James R. Sweeney II, Indianapolis.

NPR War Correspondent Hosts Veterans Reclaim Armistice Day

INDIANAPOLIS — Through panel discussions and an arts fair, the Veterans Reclaim Armistice Day event will explore the varied war experiences of male and female service members and the ways they use the humanities to cope. Special guest Kelly McKevers, NPR national correspondent and Iraq war correspondent, will moderate a conversation between Jim Brown, Director of the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs; U.S. Army Captain, Iraq war veteran and writer Olivia Cobiskey; and Kenona Southwell of the Military Family Research Institute. The event will be held Nov. 8 from 2:00-3:30 p.m. at the Indianapolis Public Library, Central Library, Clowes Auditorium, 40 E. St. Clair.

YMCA Locations Offer Free Day for Vets

INDIANAPOLIS — To pay tribute to active and retired military, all 11 full-service YMCA locations in Greater Indianapolis will welcome veterans and their families for free on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.
Veterans simply need to show a photo ID and badge or other indication of current or past military service, and they and their families will be able to participate in classes, swim, work out in the wellness center, and enjoy everything else the Y has to offer.
Plus, veterans who join the Y on Nov. 11 will pay no joining fee. Veterans always receive a discounted monthly membership. During deployment, military families receive respite child care at participating centers. For a list of the 11 full-service Y locations, visit  www.indymca.org/centers/.

Veterans Invited for Free Lunch at the Texas Roadhouse

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis’ Texas Roadhouse restaurants invite veterans and active members of U.S. military to enjoy FREE lunch on Tues., Nov. 11.  Every Texas Roadhouse location across the country will participate in the free lunch event to honor the men and women of our armed forces.
All veterans, including all active, retired or former U.S. military, can choose one of 10 entrees, including a 6-ounce sirloin and two made-from-scratch sides plus a choice of any Coca-Cola product, sweet tea/ice tea or coffee during lunch. Proof of service includes military or VA card, or discharge papers.
The offer is available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 11.
