LAWRENCE — The Museum of 20th Century Warfare and the staff at Fort Harrison State Park will be hosting the annual Soldier’s Haunt on Fri., Oct. 24 and Sat., Oct. 25 at Fort Harrison State Park, weather permitting.
A haunted hay-ride is scheduled at 7:30 p.M. on Friday and Saturday just outside of the historic Walnut Plantation. The hayrides are approximately 30-45 minutes long and involve soldiers, shooting, and the undead. This program is not recommended for children under 10 or in strollers; no pets, please. Both hayrides are limited to the first 40 participants; please no large youth groups at this time.
Family-friendly Halloween events are scheduled from 2-5 p.m. at the new Walnut Plantation Shelter. Programs include Halloween Crafts at 2 p.m., Pumpkin Decorating at 3 p.m., Costume Contest at 4 p.m., and a Weenie-Marshmallow Roast at 5 p.m. around the campfire. Participants are encouraged to provide their own hot-dog stick; weenies and marshmallows will be provided.
Fort Harrison State Park is physically located at 59th and Post Rd. in Lawrence. The Soldier’s Haunt takes place at the Walnut Plantation Shelter. There is no cost to the program; the normal State Park entrance fee applies. More information is available at 317-591-0122 Wed. – Sun. 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.. These are outdoor events; participants are reminded to dress for the weather.
