INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis area will be a hotbed of activity for the Fourth of July. Downtown, residents can enjoy a number of free or inexpensive celebrations, including A Musical Salute to America by the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra on July 3 at 12:15 a.m. at the Hilbert Theatre, 32 E. Washington St. Tickets are just $5 and available online at www.indianapolissymphony.org.
The Greater Greenwood Community Band will perform on July 3 at 8 p.m. at Garfield Park. The concert will be followed by fireworks. Bring a picnic and enjoy the free music under the stars.
Watch as Indy’s largest fireworks display lights up the skyline during the Donatos Downtown Freedom Blast, shooting from the top of the Region’s Bank Tower beginning at 10 p.m. on July 4 The show will be synchronized to patriotic and popular music broadcasted on radio stations 97.1 HANK FM, B105.7 or 93.1 WIBC. Bring a blanket and grab your spot early to watch the fireworks at the Indiana War Memorial grounds. There will be plenty of activities beginning at 6:30 p.m. to keep your entire family entertained as well as Donatos pizza, chips, cookies and soda for purchase.
The City of Lawrence will hold its annual Fourth of July Celebration beginning with a parade at 10 a.m. stepping off from Harrison Hill Elementary School (53rd and N. Richardt) and ending at Lawrence Community Park. The Lions will have their fish fry and car show, plus a hot dog eating contest at 1 p.m. Several acts will take the stage from 6 to 10 p.m., with food trucks and a kid zone area. At 10 p.m., there will be a big fireworks display.
Because the Fourth of July is a federal holiday, federal, state and local offices will be closed.
