INDIANAPOLIS — The Metropolitan Development Commission was set to hear and vote on a proposed $56 million incentive package for the Metroblocks high-density data center in Martindale-Brightwood at the commission’s Aug. 5 meeting. However, a city official with the Department of Metropolitan Development, asked the commission for a two-week delay so the city can finalize what commitments Metrobloks is willing to make to the community. Mayor Joe Hogsett’s office released a statement in support of giving tax abatements to three approved data center project in the city on July 31.
In addition to the $56 million in tax breaks Metrobloks would receive on property taxes and equipment, future tenants on its campus could save up to $339 million on new equipment.
The company has committed millions to adding more affordable housing and infrastructure projects in Martindale-Brightwood, but residents do not believe it will be enough to make an impact in the community.
The hearing is now scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19 at the City-County Building, 200 E. Washington St.
