INDIANAPOLIS – The District Theatre, 627 Mass Ave., will present The Colored Museum by George C. Wolfe, and directed by Deborah Asante, from July 2 to July 11. Shows will be on Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $28 for adults, $18 for seniors and students. Tickets can be ordered in advance online at inddistricttheatre.org
Produced by Indianapolis Black Theater Company, The Colored Museum is George C. Wolfe’s groundbreaking theatrical experience that shatters stereotypes, celebrates identity, and boldly confronts the many dimensions of Black life in America. Through a series of satirical, powerful, and deeply moving “exhibits,” this iconic play takes audiences on a journey through history, culture, memory, and imagination — inviting laughter, reflection, and revelation along the way.
With sharp wit and fearless honesty, The Colored Museum challenges how we see ourselves and how the world sees us, honoring the complexity, resilience, humor, and beauty of Black stories. This production is both a mirror and a celebration — a theatrical event that is as entertaining as it is transformative.
