INDIANAPOLIS — The U.S. Department of Agriculture has confirmed that it will move its Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program office from Washington, D.C. to Indianapolis. It is part of a major reorganization at the USDA, which administers the program. The agency is establishing the Food and Nutrition Administration, a new division to replace the Food, Nutrition, and Consumer Services.
Indianapolis would become home to one of five new USDA hubs, but did not reveal which programs will come to the city.
About 42 million people participate in SNAP, which helps low-wage, disabled, and qualifying seniors with their monthly grocery budgets.
The programs will continue without disruption throughout the reorganization.
