IMPD Chief Chris Bailey to Become Chief Deputy Mayor

INDIANAPOLIS — Mayor Joe Hogsett has announced that Chris Bailey will be appointed as Chief Deputy Mayor and Chief of Staff effective Feb. 2.
Chris Bailey currently serves as the Chief of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. Chief Bailey has dedicated more than 26 years to serving Indianapolis, beginning his career with IMPD and rising through every level of the organization. Appointed Chief of Police in January 2024, Bailey led Indiana’s largest law enforcement agency with a focus on performance, transparency, and trust. As a lifelong resident of Indianapolis and a devoted husband and father, he is personally committed to the city he calls home.
Bailey will replace Dan Parker, who served as Chief Deputy Mayor and Chief of Staff from Aug. 29, 2022, to Dec. 31, 2025. In this role, Parker championed state road funding changes that will deliver additional dollars to Indianapolis and coordinated development projects that helped to grow the Indianapolis economy.
Mayor Hogsett will appoint new Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department leadership in the coming weeks.
