Eiteljorg Hosts Dia de Muertos Community Celebration

INDIANAPOLIS — Beautiful music, exciting dance performances and cultural presentations are highlights of the annual Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) Community Celebration, jointly organized by the Eiteljorg and Arte Mexicano en Indiana. The event includes the popular Catrina Parade, with participants in elaborate costumes. The museum is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 25, a free admission day. Visit Eiteljorg.org/dia-de-muertos.
The museum also hosts the Día de Muertos Community Art and Altar Exhibit. This exhibit features ornately decorated ofrendas, or altars, created by local community organizations. Visitors can spend time with these artworks and add a note for a departed loved one to the community ofrenda. Admission to the altar exhibit in the Eiteljorg Museum’s Ruth Lilly Community Gallery is free. Visit Eiteljorg.org/exhibitions/dia-de-muertos-community-art-and-altar/.
