Art and Wine Under the Hunter’s Moon Fundraiser Oct. 4

IRVINGTON —Art and Wine Under the Hunter’s Moon is the theme for an evening of live music, wine tasting, two art exhibitions, local food and a silent auction. The Irvington Historical Society is hosting this event on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. at the Bona Thompson Memorial Center at 5350 University Ave. Tickets are $60 each which includes wine tasting, two glasses of wine, and heavy bites. Proceeds support the Irvington Historical Society. The art exhibits feature The Lost Photographs of Osbert Sumner, over 100 historic images by the former Irvington resident and photographer. Also on view, selections from the Irvington Historical Society’s permanent art collection showcasing works from a variety of local artists, both historical and contemporary.
Sahm’s Hospitality Group is providing the food including vegetarian options. Wineries Midnight Cellars, Johnson Brothers, and Manolo’s Wines will have a curated selection of wines for tasting and purchase by the glass. Beer and non-alcoholic beverages will also be available for purchase.
The silent auction includes two oil paintings by the award-winning artist and Irvington resident Justin Vining; framed limited edition print by Nashville, Indiana artist, curator and author Rachel Perry; two framed photographs by Osbert Sumner; Irvington scene painting by local artist William Lawson; gift basket with several Irvington-themed books by local authors; baskets with gift cards from several Irvington area merchants; a formal Irvington house history by Irvington author and historian Bill Gulde; and an evening of art, food and conversation with the renowned Irvington artist Rita Spalding for up to eight guests in her Irvington home and studio.
Premium Blend will provide the music for the event. Sommelier Jan Bugher will help participants to understand how to taste, appreciate and pair wine with food.
A group of Irvingtonians in 1964 founded the Irvington Historical Society to collect and preserve the history of greater Irvington. In 2002, the Society opened the Bona Thompson Memorial Center, the former Butler library when Butler University was located in Irvington. The Bona now holds thousands of artifacts and an art collection focused on Historic Irvington. The Indiana Historical Society recognized Irvington Historical Society with the 2023 Outstanding Historical Organization award. It is a 100 percent volunteer organization providing the neighborhood with vibrant cultural and art exhibits, detailed residential histories and historical research at no cost.
