IRVINGTON — The Black Hats Society of Irvington is part of the fabric of the Irvington community. They are ambassadors of the sweetly spooky side of the community, dancing their hearts out in parades, hosting events, and doing a lot of good while having fun. Currently they have almost 170 members, received our 501(c)(3) designation, and had a record-breaking fundraising year in 2024.
Last year, they raised $16,421 in charitable donations from sales of shirts and other items, grants, and events. They volunteered more than 3,000 hours to the community as well. Last year, they donated $12,000 to The PourHouse, and also assisted with 3 move-ins, and donated a lot of winter clothing items for individuals experiencing homelessness. The also raise funds for IYG for cookbooks and Irvington Pride, FIDO, and the Irvington Historical Society.
Their main fundraising event for this year is The Freakness Stakes, on June 22 from 3-6 p.m. at 203 S. Good Ave. on the grounds of Irvington Conseling Collective, a not-for-profit that provides mental health services and is this year’s beneficiary for the Black Hats this year.
