Applause!: June 20-26

• Busy weekend coming up for art fans! The Talbot Street Art Fair will be held June 21 and 22 in the Herron Morton neighborhood off of 16th and Pennsylvania. Hundreds of artisans and craftpeople will be selling their wares. Admission is free. Hours are Saturday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Across the street, Bloombox music and arts and crafts festival will be going on at the grounds of the Harrison Center, 1505 N. Delaware on Saturday, June 21 from noon-8 p.m. A huge range of vendors will be on hand, and great local musicians will be playing on two stages outside.
• After 32 years with IMPD, Commander and former Chief of IMPD, Randal Taylor retired on June 16. He served as Chief from 2020-2024. This past year he was the Commander of the Victims Assistance Unit.
• Blue Line construction is underway, and the first big closure is on Washington St. between North White River Parkway and Belmont. The closure is so that new storm sewer trunk  lines can be built. Eastbound lanes will stay open but westbound drivers will have to detour. The project is encountering delays.
• The City of Lawrence 4th Fest will include a Kickball Tournament from 11-3 on Friday, July 4 at Lawrence Park, 5301 N. Franklin Rd. Sign ups online are available at https://forms.office.com/g/cn58VYhJat
• Cumberland will have its first Blues, Beer and BBQ Fest on Saturday, June 28 from 6-10 p.m. at 104 S, Munsie St. Admission is free, and the lineup for the show is Rebekah Meldrum, Gordon Bonham, and Tad Robinson — followed by fireworks. There will be food trucks and lots of BBQ and beer available for purchase. This is a family-friendly event, so bring everyone!
• Indiana Music History Project is hosting a Global Beatles Day on Wednesday, June 25 from 4-8 p.m. at the Flanner & Buchanan IMHP Lounge at 1305 Broad Ripple Ave. Exhibits from Tom Fontaine’s collection, and live Beatles music from Wendy Reed, Tim Brickley and Cathy Morris will be featured. A cash bar and light refreshments will be available. Donations of $10 are requested, or you can become a member for $25. Current members get free admission. • Emirates partnered with NBA Cares to refurbish the Wheeler-owe facility of the Boys and Girls Club of Indianapolis. The facility got a new game room, complete with gaming equipment and consoles, new furniture and storage to hold books and games.
• There is a new artistic director of the Downtown Dinner Theatre in the Murat — Jennifer Simms. The facility opened earlier this year with live performances. DDT has also reduced the number of shows for June and July in order for her to get acclimated to the new role.
