INDIANAPOLIS — Eastsiders mother and daughter Denise Johnson and Janelle Johnson were among 48 graduates of Martin University at its 56th commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 31 in the Father Boniface Hardin Gathertorium, 2186 North Sherman Drive. Both are business administration majors who graduated with honors.
According to Denise, “It took me almost ten years to finish my degree, but my daughter was my constant inspiration to get me through.”
Janelle added, “I didn’t go straight through college. I went to school in 2018 and dropped out twice so didn’t think I was going to finish either. It just so happened that we finished at the same time.
During the commencement, 26 undergraduate students received bachelor’s degrees in assorted fields such as Teacher’s Prep, Healthcare Management, and Business Administration; 22 were awarded master’s degrees in Community Psychology and Organizational Leadership. In addition, honorary doctorates were conferred to community leaders A’Lelia Bundles & Alan Henderson.
