From The Indianapolis Times, Wednesday, April 29, 1925: The Wright “bone dry” law, one of 218 laws passed by the Legislature and signed by the Governor, went into effect late yesterday. Indianapolis police and Indiana Federal prohibition agents have been instructed to rigidly enforce the provisions of the law which provides for far heavier regulations and penalties for the drinker. “I believe that the new law will make it easier for the officers and will boost the arrests for violating the prohibition laws,” said Captain William Paulsel, head of the city booze squad. Beginning today, a person may be sent to jail and fined for purchasing or receiving intoxicating liquor, carrying liquor on their person or transporting liquor by vehicle, selling or giving away liquor, manufacturing liquor, and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Penalties for drunkenness are significantly increased.
