INDIANAPOLIS — Over recent weeks following January’s snowstorm, the Mayor’s Office, Indy DPW, and the City-County Council have been evaluating ways to improve the City’s snow operations on residential streets to better meet the needs of the community. For the remainder of the current snow season, Mayor Hogsett has instructed Indy DPW to adopt a 4-inch standard for plowing residential streets in the city.
The new residential snow response standard will set out clear expectations for when and how neighborhood streets will be plowed and will be introduced to the community during the 2026 budget process ahead of the next winter season.
Indianapolis Public Works handles snow and ice removal on about 4,00 lane miles of public roads and secondary streets. They also clear greenways, trails, and walking paths at Indy Parks when conditions warrant.
