• Woodruff Place Home & Garden Tour will be held June 29 and June 30 from noon-5 p.m. both days. There will be a vintage fashion show on June 30 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance online at woodruffplace.org or $25 each day of the event.
• Join Friends of Brookside and Spades Parks on Monday, June 24th at 6:00 p.m. in the Brookside Park Family Center, to hear Dr. Travis Ryan from Butler University speak about wildlife found in Brookside and Spades Parks, and elsewhere in the city. Dr. Ryan and other Butler faculty run Indy Wildlife Watch, a research project documenting wildlife in several locations across Indianapolis.
• Thank you to Coal Yard Coffee, 400 S. Ritter. They also hosted an Indianapolis Animal Care Services dog adoption event June 15 & 16, where 40 were adopted! They ran out of dogs halfway through the event and had to go back to the shelter to get some more! Good people doing good things. A big thank you goes out to the people who gave these shelter pets a fur-ever home.
• New Palestine will have a Summer Fest on Friday, June 21 starting at 4 p.m. and Saturday, June 22 from 1-10 p.m. There will be lots of activities for kids, music, a beer and wine garden for the adults, and fireworks on Saturday at 10 p.m. The event will take place on 11 East Main St. in New Pal.
• FIDO will have a Boutique Sale on Saturday, June 29 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at their headquarters. 1505 N. Sherman. They will have all sorts of accessories, new and used pet clothes and costumes, pet stairs, and much more. Proceeds go to support FIDO’s mission of improving the lives of outside dogs in the city.
• Another tactical urbanism project has been installed at 86tth and the Monon Trail. The temporary rumble strips and bollards are in place, and it is hoped that these initiatives will calm traffic and make it safer for pedestrians and cyclists at the intersection. A similar project on 10th St. last year helped reduce speed and crashes in the area.
• South East Neighborhood Development CDC recently started a campaign to raise money for the Lady Spray fountain in Fountain Square to bring it back to full glory. It was first erected in 1888 and has been a symbol for the historic community. The campaign ends June 30 to fund essential repair and maintenance. Visit sendcdc.or/fountain-fund to donate.
• Recently, Civilian EMT Cloud, Civilian Paramedic Albrecht, Firefighter/EMT Lutgring, and Lt. Rehmel of Lawrence were presented the Stork Award from the Indiana Dept. of Homeland Security EMS Division for their work helping a new baby into the world while en route to the hospital. Mom and baby are doing well. The award is given to EMS-certified professionals who assist in non-hospital deliveries.
