• The Little Flower Neighborhood Association has rescheduled their Chili & Cornbread cookoff for Sunday, Feb. 25. Advance registration is required to enter the competition. You can sign up at: https://forms.gle/nHNWr7CGMDYwt31q9. A prize will be awarded for the best Chili and the best Cornbread. All registrants are to arrive by 3:45 p.m.
• A big shout of thanks needs to go out to Indianapolis Animal Care Services Officer Ville Kohonen, who recently saved three lives, two canine and one human. Responding to a call of a dog left out in brutally cold weather, he found a Husky and heard noises from a yard close by. He worked with an IMPD officer to gain access to the back yard, and discovered a dog in need of help and a person lying on the ground, unable to speak and suffering from frostbite. The officer secured the dogs in his truck and warmed them, and the individual was also rescued.
• Indianapolis Public Library will host the annual Meet the Artists exhibit from Jan. 31-March 23 at the Central Library, 40 E. St. Clair. This year’s showcase will be “All-Star,” paying tribute to the NBA All-Star Weekend taking place Feb. 17-18. A variety of art styles will be on display, including sculpture, painting, jewelry, and the written works of Black authors will be on display.
• The Southside Art League will host an exhibition “White Rose” from Jan. 31-Feb. 29 at their gallery, 299 E. Broadway, in Greenwood. Hours are Wed.-Sat. 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Many of the pieces will be for sale, which might be a great gift for Valentine’s Day. There will be an open house on Sunday, Feb. 4 from 2-4 p.m.
• Speaking of art exhibits, check out the Irvington Group exhibit at the Bona Thompson Memorial Center, 5350 University Ave. on Saturdays and Sundays from 1-4 p.m. The exhibit features the works of the Irvington Group, which included artists William Forsythe and Clifton Wheeler. The lost murals of Dorothy Morlan are also on display. Admission is free, but donations are always encouraged.
• The Indiana Historical Society will celebrate Eva Kor on Saturday, Jan. 27 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. with two exhibits highlighting the Holocaust survivor’s life and legacy. The Indiana History Center is located at 450 W. Ohio St. Eva’s son Dr. Alex Kor will be on hand for remarks, and a screening of a documentary.
• The City of Lawrence Fire Departments all now have Opioid Rescue Kits in their firehouse lobbies. They contain free Narcan and Fentanyl test strips for the public.
