INDIANAPOLIS — The 2022–2023 Season is a momentous occasion for Dance Kaleidoscope with the celebration of the 50th Anniversary. Over its 50-year history, Dance Kaleidoscope (DK) has been recognized for exceptional contemporary dance, arts education, and for its outstanding contributions to arts and culture in Indiana. This historic year will be a time to reflect on a golden legacy of achievement, the tremendous growth the organization has achieved and to celebrate all those who helped to facilitate it.
This important milestone will be marked by a year-long series of events and performances that aim to celebrate the past and embrace and envision the future.
Dance Kaleidoscope kickS off the 50th anniversary season with David Hochoy’s epic production of Carmina Burana at the Indiana Repertory Theatre (IRT), October 20-23. Performances on October 20-22 are at 7 p.m. and the Sunday, October 23 matinee is at 2 p.m. Following the Sunday performance, Dance Kaleidoscope with support from the Lilly Endowment, Inc. will host a reception at the Arts Garden 4-6 p.m. for former dancers, staff, volunteers, donors and other special guests.
The season’s main stage productions also include Wonders of the World, January 12-15, at Schrott Center for Arts based on the seven modern wonders with premieres by Artistic Director David Hochoy, Stuart Lewis, Associate Artistic Director and guest choreographer Norbert de la Cruz III. Magical Decades Tour, March 23-26 includes Hochoy’s Beatles infused production along with new choreography by company dancers. The season closes with Scheherazade at the IRT inspired by One Thousand and One Nights, June 1-4, followed by a gala celebration at Biltwell Event Center on June 9, 2023.
Dance Kaleidoscope grew out of Arts for Learning as an educational program in 1972 and in 1975 became a 501 c3 nonprofit organization under artistic director Laura Elmore. In 1977 Cherri Jaffee was named artistic director and DK became a professional repertory company. Their headquarters and rehearsal space is in the Circle City Industrial Complex.
