INDIANAPOLIS — Central Library, located at 40 E. St. Clair St., houses the Center for Black Literature & Culture. It is home to the library’s largest collection of Black authors, and is open to browsers. The collection features authors whose work impacts local, national and global culture in literature, sports, business, politics, science and music.
Since it opened in 2017, the CBLC has hosted an annual anniversary celebration in October that includes keynote speakers, readings, and much more.
In addition, there is an annual Book Fest and Juneteenth Celebration that highlights local authors and topics of interest in the African-American community.
The Power of Black Voices Web site, cblc.indypl.org, provides an online collection of artifacts, photos, and articles in several categories, and pays special attention to local African-American notables in business, literature, science, and sports.
