INDIANAPOLIS — Flanner Buchanan, a four-generation local business, is celebrating its milestone 140th anniversary with a donation to Flanner House, a community center that helps people move to a place of self-reliance and self-sufficiency. The announcement was made at a gathering of the company’s funeral directors on March 8 at its corporate office located at 2020 Montcalm Street in Indianapolis’ Riverside neighborhood.
Flanner Buchanan has a longstanding relationship with Flanner House, dating back to its founding by Frank W. Flanner in 1898. Through the years, the Buchanan family has stayed committed to Flanner House, a national model for social service agencies.
The donation is the use of 1.5 acres of land, valued at $140,000, for the construction and use of three greenhouses near Flanner House. The greenhouses will create 12-15 full time jobs in the neighborhood as well as provide fresh produce in an area of the city known as a food desert. Ground breaking is expected in April.
