INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Department of Public Works (Indy DPW) has announced that the pedestrian corridors at Broad Ripple Avenue and Massachusetts Avenue (Mass Ave) will be re-opened to vehicle traffic after Labor Day Weekend. Crews will begin removing barriers at Broad Ripple Avenue on Tuesday, Sept. 8. Barriers will be removed from Mass Ave later in the week as crew schedules allow.
While motorists will be able to travel in both directions of Broad Ripple and Massachusetts avenues once re-opened, businesses which have been permitted to expand seating into adjacent street parking spaces may continue to operate in these locations while protected by remaining concrete barriers.
The temporary pedestrian corridor along Georgia Street between Pennsylvania and Meridian streets, which compromises no on-street parking spaces, will continue to be closed to vehicular traffic.
All three street locations were closed in May to create space for pedestrians to stay socially distant while enjoying these commercially dense areas.
