INDIANAPOLIS — Every 10 years, everyone living in the United States is counted by the U.S. Census Bureau. The count is used to distribute power at every level of government and distribute more than $675 billion each year to communities across the nation.
Last February, the city’s Department of Metropolitan Development’s Long Range Planning Division launched Count Me INdy, a campaign dedicated to promoting the census to all Marion County residents. Over the past year they have worked with over a hundred community partners to ensure that Indianapolis has an accurate count. Starting March 12, households will receive an invitation in the mail to respond online to the 2020 Census. Households can also respond by phone or request a hard copy of the survey. Here’s what you can expect to receive by mail:
• March 12-20: An invitation will be sent in the mail to respond online.
• March 16-24: An initial reminder letter will be sent out.
• March 26-April 3: A follow up reminder letter will be sent out.
• April 8-16: A reminder letter and paper questionnaire.
• April 20-27: A final reminder letter will arrive before the U.S. Census Bureau begins to follow up in person.
